March 2023 saw the 20th anniversary of the release of Evanescence's debut album, Fallen. To celebrate, I designed a collector's edition of all five studio albums released by the band which would be sold as a set.
Taking into account the lyrics, themes and music on each album, I chose an atmospheric and cinematic response by combining minimalism with textures and carefully curated images. Fallen is a clear nod to the original album cover, but with an added sense of maturity to signify the band's 20 year growth. To compliment this, I also embraced the blue colour palette of the debut album, but decreased the saturation for a more subtle finish.
The definition of 'evanescence' is: 'soon passing out of sight, memory, or existence; quickly fading or disappearing'. I made the decision to embrace this through the material choices in the packaging. The inner cover of the records are made of translucent paper of which the image is printed on to as if it is 'fading or disappearing'.
The outer covers each feature their own subtle textured image, such as the sea, sand etc. These are then embellished with silver foiled detail in the text, logo and sub mark for a luxurious finish.
